If you’re keen to taste the fruit of Catalan vines, Vins & Co is the place to go. Handily located a few blocks from the bustling Rambla de Catalunya and Passeig de Gràcia shopping streets, this compact shop specialises in local wines from small producers.
Their selection of Catalan wines is one of the widest and most interesting in the city with every one of Catalunya’s 12 D.O. wine regions represented. There’s a range of heavy hitters from renowned Priorat producers like Álvaro Palacios, Clos Mogador and Terroir al Límit, but the helpful staff love recommending more unusual options from their small biodynamic and organic producers whom they know personally.
For those who are interested in learning a little more about Catalan wine, the Vins & Co team also organise weekly in-store events. Usually they’ll invite one of their producers to taste through 3-4 of their wines and often a final “surprise” wine that hasn’t been commercially released or a barrel sample.
Past events have also included showings of wine-themed documentaries and chats with personalities from the Catalan wine world like Manuel Raventós, owner of famed Cava winery Raventós i Blanc.
If you’re more keen on mastering the basics of wine tasting, from time to time Vins & Co offers courses both for beginners and those with a little more experience. Over 3 sessions of 2 hours each you’ll try a variety of Catalan wines and leave able to impress even the most boorish dinner party guest.
